Virginia's Troubling Deprivation, Discrimination for Most Prisoners and A Call for Mr, Jeffery Gardner is Needed At Pocahontas State Prison

My name is Jeffery Gardner, and I am being told I have lung and testicular cancer (lymphoma). I don't want any treatment to prolong my life and stay in VADOC (Virginia Department Of Corrections) I've done over 16 years in VADOC, for crimes I didn't commit and it has been hell on me and my family. I have seen things get progressively worse and the quality of life diminishes.

I have been denied all decent jobs (food service, laundry, Rec. Dept. Visitation, Library, etc) that would allow me to spend my time engaged in positive and product activity and earn about $50.oo/month. The Administration and staff hate anyone with a sex crime and want to warehoused in the housing units to work for $16.oo/month. I have to depend on my family for financial support.

security allows inmates convicted of murders, malicious wounding, assault and battery, etc...to work, but out of hatred and animosity with a sex crime can not, even though they have the lowest recidivism rates.

I've lost the ability to watch DVD's on weekends, lost the ability to receive photos, Birthday cards, & Christmas cards. The food was taken out of visitation, so I can't have a decent meal and must forfeit lunch. VADOC put extremely strict policies on publications and commercial vendors. I get overcharged for commissary.

Sitting in a pod 12-14 hours a day waiting on a phone or kiosk to become available is no way to send life, but that's what me and many others are getting. For VADOC to expect me to continue to live this way for 34 more years is ridiculous.

I've explained this to my family and friends. I've essays on the prison conditions in VADOC, which can be found on - American Prison Writers Archive, website (Good time credits and disciplinary procedure & Offender work program discrimination) My concerns are also available on the Virginia Prisons Accountability Committee, Website and posted on 4-29-18.

I have explained to the Institutional Attorney, James P Carmody 116 Veterans Drive Richlands VA. 24641, that I do not want my family to pay VADOC $500.oo for my body. I want it donated to science and prefer it to go to a body farm. VADOC has withheld money for my release, and I have $25.oo in my hold account, there is $1000.oo in my savings account. I want these funds to provide a real meal for American Legion Post 775, most of these men haven't had a steak, porkchop, or pea in years or decades,

Anyone who wishes to support me on an early release can go to:
